At LDT unlike some driver training schools we teach full days 8.30am to 4.00pm and 1-to-1, this means that you will not share your course with another trainee. Many training companies in the quest for higher profits will quote that 2-to-1 training is better because you will learn from the other driver. Its obvious that this done for one reason only - the company get paid twice; this often means that the price can appear to be very attractive. Training companies have found that 2-to-1 courses are more difficult to organise and are becoming less popular, a recent trend is to offer half day courses that appear better value. A half day course may last ‘5 days’, but you will attend training in the morning or afternoon - that's not 5 days, it's only 2.5 and if you account for the time on the test it equals only 2 days training. The advertised bogus selling point with half day courses is that the trainee will not become as tired. We have never found this to be the case and believe a whole day is required to enable the instructor to teach fully and effectively the different test routes and manoeuvres.

At LDT we carry out a 1 hour assessment lesson to judge how much training will be required to enable the trainee to pass 1st time. This means we can structure the course to individual requirements, not too much nor too little training. Retests after insufficient training can be costly and a disappointing test failure for the trainee.
In recent years the truck licencing category names have changed. HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) is now LGV (Large Goods Vehicle) and the names Class 1, 2, 3 have been renamed:
B+E = Car plus trailer over 750kg
LGV C1 = Rigid truck over 3500kg upto 7500kg
LGV C = Rigid truck from 7500kg upto 32,000kg
LGV C+E = Articulated or Drawbar truck up to the legal maximum of 44,000kg
Since 1997 in order to obtain an LGV C+E licence (Class 1 Artic) individuals must first pass the LGV C test (Class 2). This means you must take two tests to get a full HGV licence, 1st on a smaller rigid truck then 2nd on a larger articulated truck.
